  • If your wisdom tooth is growing in, does that mean you’re getting wiser?….How do you know if its growing in? does it start hurting your jaw and ears? when you chew food, do you feel like not eating any more?…sigh getting wiser is painful.  I should call my dentist so I can stay simple and stupid.

Yesterday Michael Moore came to speak at the tennis center. $2 admission for nothing but a rant session on Bush and a campaign to get young voters out to the poll so I left early to attend a more important meeting about accounting. A total waste of money and time…all I gained was an unnecessary tan. I guess if I were more anti one presidential canidate over another, I woud have been more entertained. Maybe I was expecting a little more than the obvious.

On the flip side, I went to a forum discussion about American Power and Global Politics. I think I saw the future Prime Minister of Pakistan there. How do I know you ask? I met him at Athgo–another one of my nerdy conventions.

So I guess I’m going to get my hair lightened for free this season! 3 times a week, 3 hours a day, soaking in the chlorinated SAS pool! That’s right! I’m going to be part of the club waterpolo team here! But free highlights and singed hair aren’t the only things I’ll be drawing from the team….a flat tummy and toned appendages come with th package as well! Something to rejoice about!

DeNeve F208 Moment: Char’s head got stuck in her sweater one day, so she asked me to help her get out of it….being the simpatico roommate that I am, I pulled her around the room for about 5 minutes  instead of seriously helping her out. We both had laughing fits for about 5 minutes. Hahaha I’m deliciously evil. Too bad I don’t have a camcorder, or you all would have had access to 5 minutes of gaiety to grace your lives too.

  • I don’t know what compelled me to cut my hair in Hong Kong, but I hate my fob cut now!

This weekend, Matt and I went to the UCLA/Arizona game. Not only did we score 5 touchdowns, but the students who attended were rewarded 5% off at the student store per touchdown…totaling to a 25% break for today’s retail therapy session.

The blackhole for cell phone reception in the dorms is preplexingly consistant…especially when you’re trying to get a hold of your roommate.

We have next season, Dodgers! As an ode to a great season, we should all go buy Nancy Bea’s CD for $10 and play it while we inundate ourselves with garlic fries.

I hate the Cards. Boo Braves.

    Happy Birthday EnEn!

  • I lied…I still have half an hour to kill before heading off to class. There have been more and more people wanting to be teachers lately. Why is that? Okay time to poop.

  • Waitlists are a popular thing here at UCLA. You can’t say that you’ve experienced the UCLA culture until you’ve been on one of their waitlists– for a class or a treadmill, waiting seems to be one of LA’s more common pasttimes. The former is inevitable, and the later can be avoided by going to the gym later at night. Oh, and I take back what I said about the food here. It’s pretty good at Covel Commons. Yum…Actually, reinstate what I said in my past entry…it’s not that good, don’t expect much, and come visit me! I’ll swipe you in so you can pass your own judgement.

There was a bit of hall drama yesterday, triggered by a network marketing group. I probably caused a bit of the animosity, but either way it was quite entertaining and an unchartered time for bonding with the fellow hall mates. You’d be surprised how many people don’t understand or haven’t heard of the Tupperware technique. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about, ask me to give you a briefing on Business 411. By the way, Napoleon Dynamite is a must see.

FYI from Charlyne, I talk in my sleep.

    Gotta get to class now….adios.

  • As a tribute to my intellectual gangsta, Oliver Luo, I will update this xanga with a few things worth mentioning…

Food at UCLA is over-rated, but come by anyway…I gurantee you’ll gain a few £s regardless. I’ll swipe you in with my premeire plan.  I got rear-ended on Saturday but there’s not too much damage to my car…ethier way, Matt won’t let me drive. Charlyne is way ugly Ö and sometimes she scares me. hahah…OH NO! Ryan Seacrest just called out Michael Gore’s birthday 10/18! Oh well, he wouldn’t wake up to call anyway. I was bagging on FaceBook the other day, and how only losers participate in it…but now that I’ve conformed, we’re winners!  Join FaceBook, and become a winner by making me a friend! Humn…what else what else…James is coming to visit me today! Have fun in traffice! okay gotta go get ready for class now. bye! ♥&Ü

  • Free contacts, solution and rewetting drops for the next two months and $120 bucks to top it off…possibly a new pair of jeans . Thanks for the hook up Char!

Today I went to Keppel to save my sister’s butt from the Calculus monster. Instead, I got in a little cat fight with Dr. Gonzales. I say cat fight because Dr. Gonzales is a scardy cat with a massive ego. Lesson of the day: The only way to defeat a power trip from the administrative leader of a public highschool is to summon your own greater power trip.

The Wedding by Nicholas Sparks: A must read for a good sigh. Sweet but disappointing because in real life, there is no guy who would do what Wilson does in that story.

  • Well, it’s been nearly a month since I’ve been back. I kinda miss China for it’s food and shopping but I never became accustomed to the air, so I’m glad I’m home in Los Angeles. I’ve been trying to keep myself busy to kill time before moving back into school, which by the way, I have a new email address now: diana02@ucla.edu. Please change your address books! Lets see if I can conjure up some highlights of my summer…

Guangzhou, China: crazy traffic everywhere. People spit when they want. Its a wonder how they got rid of SARS. Great food, even better shopping. Found the cutest rip-off prada bag ever after much hunting. China is the place to go for fake stuff…you can’t even tell. Had an encounter with Howard, the giant spider–scared me out of my wits cuz he was just chillin on the air conditioner vents…gives you an idea of how hot it is there…even the aracnos have to cool themselves off.

Guilin, China: picturesque mountains and tons of tourists. I’ll have to post some up when I get my regular computer set up. They’re just like the chinese mountain paintings, where the mountains look almost cartoon-like. Got con-ed into buying a jar of miracle cream because in a demonstration, a dude burned himself and used the cream to heal the burn completely. Thought it might be cool to play with fire when I got home, but thought better of it after I dished out the 100 RMB.

Beijing, China: met tons of new people and went to a corporate party. Made some important connections there for future networking. It was too hot, and besides the governmental tourist sights, didn’t have too much. But I did have the best bowl of JaJaMein there. Oh, and Beijing Duck is a must have. Try this next time: Take duck skin and dip it in coarse sugar. This wonderful combo makes the morsel irresistable! More shopping, more food. My friend got coned into buying 5 slices of kiwi on a skewer for 10RMB because she wanted to find out what “5 Monkey Peaches” were. As we can see, Branding is an important investment.

Shanghai, China: As metro as Matt’s brother Garron! Just joshing…It’s a beautiful city where everything is about asthetics. Prices go up in the city, but it’s worth the hike. Food is delish and so are the trendy hot spots. I overspent on dried mangos because I had an intense craving for them…and needless to say, the Little Dragon Dumplings (Shao Loong Bao) were small in size but the flavor in them had a powerful punch. Didn’t spend much time here since I went to venture off in the neighboring HongZhou and SoZhou–which were breathtaking.

HongZhou and So Zhou: the capital of tea and silk. These two cities capture the best of China.

Hong Kong: My favorite of the whole trip. Great food, even better shopping. They have the Economist in the newsstands! I can definately survive on this island if stranded. Although they didn’t have the taro pies in McD’s, they had a lot of Philippinos there. The McDonalds in Hong Kong can also be known as Philippino town, although I have no clue where they come from. Purchased a new pair of Gucci glasses for way too much, but they’re light as a feather and not worth the money I spent on them. God only knows what compelled me to buy. Better shopping and even better food.

Taiwan: Oscar welcomed me warmly with Din Tai Fung and taiwanese shaved ice as the begining of my mini weekend excursion away from the mainland. Taiwan is very much like Hong Kong aside from the language barrier of taiwanese. We went to view nighttime Shanghai from the top of a tall tower, and then to the night markets to try stinky tofu and taiwanese lemonade. An encounter with Muji (a very trendy trinket store) emptied my wallet…luckily the Jay Chao concert–following my Muji experience–was free. More night markets and good food concluded my stay. Jay Chao, YAY!

I guess all in all, my summer in China was quite eventful. Almost got stuck in the east beacuse they were having a baby convention at the White Swan Hotel..and overbooked our plane. Way to go, China Southern! (they POed a lot of people) Our group only had 4 seats available when we needed 7. The whole plane was full of crying chinese babies, but I managed to sleep through 10 hours of it anyway. More to come about the rest of my summer tomorrow. Stay tuned!

  • China is hot and sticky. It’s hard to find internet access, and you run into random deposits of stinky air. But over all, it’s a good experience. I’m currently in shang-hai and just enjoyed a shao loong bao meal–sorry, nick i don’t think it would be wise to bring some back for you…it would probably rot and create a crazy new disease worse than sars…but try din tai fung in arcadia…the delicious little morsels are equally as good but less homestyled…which translates to clean comfort. :) I’m missing home a whole lot right now…and LA air. Yes, Los Angeles air quality surpasses China’s by far. It feels like you’re being suffocated once you leave any building. Gotta get out of this ghetto internet cafe and head back to the hotel before it gets too late. jai jean

  • greetings from china, where the air is humid, and the food is scrumptiously spectacular. I’ve already gone to guang zhou and guilin. guilin is where the rolling mountains are, and where one can roll in God’s wonderous creations and mosquito bites. Internet access is at an all time low right now, and I’ve been experiencing internet withdrawl pangs. Its a good thing that my friend’s office has internet connection here in beijing. It’s less humid up in the northern part of china, since they just survived a storm that flooded a good part of the region. next stop will be shanghai, where all the nightlife is at…then it’s to huang zhou…I haven’t a clue what’s there, but it’s close enough to shanghai to take a tour. I’m positive it would be a promising experience in sights and sounds….then is back to guangzhou so I could head towards my mother’s motherland, Hong Kong. I can’t wait for hong kong…thus I can navigate myself around the city with my barely sufficient command over the cantonese language….then it’s to taiwan, where I will meet up wtih my dear highschool friend, Oscar. He said he would present taipei to me like a local. I can’t wait to go there cuz then I can earn another stamp in my passport. Then its japan for a little while before i head back to Hong Kong.  then back to guang zhou where I can catch my wonderful 15 hours-plane ride home. Will update later…gotta go out and roam the streets of beijing for great bargains!
